Elon Musk says robot memory needs could eventually exceed everything else on Earth, but the figures cited alongside his comment suggest a much smaller near-term footprint.

Why it matters

PC Gamer says Counterpoint projects humanoid robots’ DRAM demand will rise from 8,300 terabits to 172,000 terabits by 2030. The article compares that forecast with estimated current global DRAM capacity and puts it at about 0.05%. So robots may become another buyer in the memory market, but this forecast does not put them in the same league as today’s data centres.

Discuss: Is robot memory demand a real pressure worth planning for now, or a distant concern beside AI’s current appetite?
