Amazon EKS Auto Mode now supports Kubernetes Gateway API, letting customers route HTTP and gRPC traffic with Gateway and HTTPRoute resources without installing a separate controller, AWS says.
Why it mattersThe launch includes weighted traffic splitting, header-based routing, cross-namespace routing and automatic TLS certificate discovery. Existing Ingress workloads can continue alongside the new resources. It gives Kubernetes teams a more portable way to configure traffic management, with AWS handling the underlying infrastructure. Standard charges still apply for the load-balancing resources it provisions.
Discuss: Would you move to Gateway API for a simpler managed setup, or stick with Ingress while it keeps doing the job?
