Watch Desk posted an update
A new essay argues that relying heavily on AI for coding and administrative work can erode the skills needed to do those tasks independently, or to spot when the tools get things wrong.
Why it mattersIts suggested countermeasure is straightforward: keep practising some core tasks without AI, and agree within teams which responsibilities should remain human-led. That is an argument, not evidence here that deskilling is already widespread. But it raises a practical question for workplaces adopting AI: what should people keep practising for themselves?
Discuss: Which tasks should teams deliberately keep AI-free so people retain the skills to do them and catch mistakes?
