What changedPerplexity’s voice mode uses GPT-Live-1, while OpenAI began rolling GPT-Live-1.1 out in ChatGPT on 15 October, according to OrcaRouter. The report says Perplexity has not said whether it evaluated 1.1 or plans to upgrade, so the two services may be using different versions.
OrcaRouter says GPT-Live-1 has been generally available through OpenAI’s API since 10 September, priced at US$0.05 per voice minute. It also says ChatGPT Voice has used the model since 8 July. That makes Perplexity’s move a new use of an existing model, rather than a new model launch.
The API price is a reference point, not a disclosed cost for Perplexity subscribers. OrcaRouter notes that Perplexity has not identified the reasoning model paired with voice, so the report does not establish the full cost or performance of the service.
