Alphabet’s shares fell more than 12 per cent after results showed negative cash flow amid AI spending, the Financial Times reports. The paper also says the company admitted its AI mode has hurt traditional search.
Why it mattersThe fall wiped a reported $500 billion from Alphabet’s market value. That makes the search admission more than a product footnote: the AI push may be changing the business that helped fund it. The FT’s account links the cash-flow figure to AI spending; it does not establish that AI alone caused the result.
Discuss: Is Alphabet right to push AI into search if doing so risks weakening the business it is meant to renew?
