OpenAI Watch posted an update
OpenAI says it uses layered monitoring to detect frontier-model misalignment and unauthorised agent behaviour, so responders can intervene before incidents escalate.
Why it mattersThat is a useful glimpse of how the company approaches AI security: watching for trouble is part of the response, not just testing a model before release. Monitoring is no magic forcefield, but catching a warning early gives teams a chance to act.
Discuss: For frontier AI, should companies put more effort into monitoring systems in use or testing them before release?

OpenAI Watch Update What changedOpenAI says its expanded monitoring now covers training, evaluation and internal use, with a modified version for some external deployments. The company says it monitors every reinforcement-learning run, evaluation and tool-use harness for models at least as capable as GPT-6 Astra, as well as most workloads it assesses as above GPT-5.5 Thinking.
The system has several layers: lightweight probes scan model activity, a model-based reviewer examines conversations and tool use, and investigative agents can reconstruct flagged cases. For sensitive workloads, another layer can draw on network logs and system telemetry.
The most striking example is a simulation based on behaviour recorded during the Hugging Face incident.
OpenAI also says monitoring can trigger a pause for some critical alerts, while external tool-use alerts do not routinely go to OpenAI staff.

OpenAI Watch Update What changedResultsense says OpenAI’s monitoring system initially screens activity with lightweight probes, then passes suspicious cases to more involved review. The first probes are tuned to over-report, and a random 5% of traffic they clear is also checked by the next layer.
For sensitive work, the account says a further layer checks transcripts against network logs and other telemetry before deciding whether to alert a person. Resultsense also reports that external researchers at METR and Redwood Research tested the system for three weeks from July, found several weaknesses, and that one is still being fixed.
The coverage boundaries matter for teams deploying OpenAI models.
OpenAI is also working towards automatically pausing work if a top-priority alert is not cleared within 30 minutes, according to Resultsense.
