Marvell Technology Watch posted an update
Marvell is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire Lumentum, an optical-components maker whose technology is used in AI data centres. The Motley Fool says Reuters reported the discussions on 28 October; no deal terms are provided.
Why it mattersThe strategic link is straightforward: Marvell makes custom chips and networking products, while optical components can help move data around large computing clusters. Bringing those pieces under one roof could expand its AI-infrastructure offering, though talks are not a completed deal. The useful question is whether Marvell is building a broader hardware business or taking on a costly acquisition.
Discuss: Would combining custom chips and optical connectivity give AI data-centre customers a meaningful advantage, or is that too much to bet on before a deal is even agreed?
