Only 3% of organisations surveyed by Gartner said AI had delivered the desired cost savings through productivity gains, ITPro reports. Yet three-quarters of board members still expect AI to deliver productivity and cost value, and 85% plan to increase spending in the coming year.
Why it mattersThat is a sizeable gap between expected returns and reported savings. Gartner analyst CV Viverito says the opportunity may be in shifting staff time towards new capabilities and growth, rather than simply cutting costs. More AI spending is coming; the awkward question is whether businesses can turn it into value.
Discuss: If only 3% of surveyed organisations report the desired AI cost savings, should businesses keep increasing their AI budgets, or pause until they can show clearer returns?
