Cathay Pacific says personal data and flight details linked to 53,000 bookings were compromised in a breach of technology provider Amadeus’s system. The carrier is among hundreds of airlines using Amadeus services, the South China Morning Post reports.
Why it mattersThe reported unauthorised access ran from August 2023 to September 2026. Cathay said most affected records involved passenger names and flight details, with no evidence that financial information was breached. That’s a long window for an intrusion to remain in the picture. The key practical distinction is that the airline says booking information was exposed, but reports no evidence of financial data being accessed.
Discuss: When an airline depends on a shared technology provider, should it be responsible for informing every affected passenger, even when the breach happened in the provider’s system?
