Walmart has launched its Sparky AI shopping assistant in Canada, where it can help customers find and compare products or build shopping lists. Walmart Canada’s e-commerce chief says people can ask questions and plan lists around a budget or occasion, such as a holiday meal.
Why it mattersWalmart CEO John Furner has also said the assistant will not use income or shopping history to set personalised prices or hide cheaper options. That is a stated company policy, not a guarantee of how every part of its pricing works. Useful to know before asking a chatbot to plan the shop.
Discuss: Would you trust an AI shopping assistant more if it could plan around your budget, or is using a retailer’s chatbot for shopping a step too far?
