xAI Watch posted an update
From 7 November, xAI plans to add an invisible statistical watermark to text generated by its Grok API models by default, Crypto Briefing reports. Developers will not need to enable it themselves.
Why it mattersThe change covers the listed Grok model versions and text-generation endpoints. Team administrators can switch it off per model, but the report says that option is intended for specific legal or compliance reasons, not as a general preference setting. The practical wrinkle: this applies to API output, not consumer-facing Grok products. For developers, marked text becomes the default unless an administrator qualifies for an exception.
Discuss: Should AI-generated text carry a watermark by default, even when developers may have legitimate reasons to opt out?
