Boris Cherny says production code written by Claude should face a higher bar than code written by a human.
Why it mattersThe Anthropic engineer points to lint rules, extensive tests, Claude-driven end-to-end testing, daily fuzzing, automated reviews and refactoring as guardrails. It is a useful admission of where coding agents still need supervision: generating code is one milestone; keeping the resulting code maintainable and secure is the less glamorous boss fight.
Discuss: Should AI-generated production code require stricter checks than human-written code, or should the bar depend only on the software’s risk?
