Mecka AI is nearing a $500m valuation in a Sequoia-led deal, TechCrunch reports, as investors crowd around the data needed to train robots. The round is coming together months after the two-year-old startup announced its Series A.
Why it mattersThe amount being raised and final terms are not yet clear, so this is a deal in formation rather than a cheque-cutting ceremony. Still, the signal is useful: robotics’ bottleneck is increasingly being treated as a data problem as much as a hardware one.
Discuss: Will robot-training data become a durable moat for startups, or a short-lived funding fashion?
