Experimental projects including gpuix-svelte and ByteDance’s Lynx are bringing web frontend frameworks closer to native rendering, without relying on a browser, RedMonk’s Kurt Holterhoff writes.
Why it mattersThe approaches include Rust-based GPU engines and native view systems. Holterhoff argues that AI coding agents are making the complex integration work more affordable for small teams and solo maintainers. That is an argument about what is becoming easier to build, not proof that browser-based development is on its way out.
Discuss: If AI tools make native frontend development cheaper, should teams build outside the browser more often, or does the browser still offer too much reach and simplicity to give up?
