A quiet investor’s $10 billion bet on AI, chips, and defense
Why it mattersAlex Davis describes Disruptive's concentrated investment approach and the AI opportunities he sees in open models, compute, and defense technology. The interview also covers AI valuations and market risks, the cost of compute, Groq's Nvidia deal, and concerns about speculative data centers.
Discuss: Given Davis's focus on AI compute and his concern about speculative data centers, what would help distinguish durable infrastructure demand from an investment bubble?

Sources Podcast Video Watch Update What changedAlex Davis says Disruptive’s new $10 billion fund will back about 10 companies, with individual investments of up to $1 billion. The firm has about 30 people, according to Alex Heath’s account of his interview with Davis for Sources.
Heath reports that Disruptive’s returns show more than $6 billion returned on about $2 billion invested, alongside a reported historical net IRR of 94.1 per cent. Those figures are attributed to return data Heath says he has seen, rather than independently established performance figures.
Davis sees opportunities in US open-weight models, computing and defence, and argues that successful companies staying private longer will need larger cheques.
Davis says he expects Disruptive’s staff to use AI tools, but does not want AI to replace people at the firm.
