Embark Studios has published a video explaining its use of AI-generated voices in Arc Raiders, the shooter where AI voice acting drew criticism after launch. The studio’s audio director argued that recording every variation of certain lines would be impractical, according to Kotaku’s report on the video.
Why it mattersEmbark said it had begun replacing the AI voices with recordings by actors in March 2026. The new video reopens a familiar industry argument: whether AI is a useful way to handle mountains of game dialogue, or a shortcut that comes at the expense of performers and performance.
Discuss: When a game needs many variations of a line, should studios use AI voices, or is recording them with actors worth the extra effort?
