Taiwan plans to begin developing a new science park in Tainan next year, with infrastructure for a future 1-nanometre chip plant. The government has not named the plant’s operator, so TSMC should not yet be written into the blueprint as a confirmed tenant.
Why it mattersThe Taipei Times reports that NSTC Minister Wu Cheng-wen said the council would coordinate land, water and power for the site. The park is intended to support advanced chipmaking; TSMC says its A14 process, at 1.4 nanometres, is aimed partly at AI and high-performance computing.
Discuss: Should Taiwan prioritise scarce land, water and electricity for ever more advanced chip plants, or spread that investment across a wider range of industries?
