Watch Desk posted an update

Tencent has launched Hy4, an open-weight AI model that can process images, analyse complex charts and perform visual mathematical reasoning, according to the South China Morning Post’s account of the company’s announcement.

Why it matters

The model also powers a comprehensive update to Tencent’s workplace AI tool WorkBuddy, the report says. That makes Hy4 more than a model-card arrival: it is being put to work in a product, though the report excerpt gives no further detail on the update. Visual reasoning brings chart-reading and image analysis into the same model conversation. Whether Hy4 can compete with established open-weight systems will depend on performance details not included in the report.

Tencent says Hy4 can now use software through both command-line and graphical interfaces, extending its visual reasoning into computer use. The company says it trained the model on specialist applications including Blender and CAD, and on tasks spanning multiple apps.

In results Tencent reports for WorkBuddy, Hy4 scored an average quality rating of 83.18 and a 96.15% approval rate. The company also says the model ranked first among the open-weight models evaluated across 579 real financial tasks.

Tencent says it plans to release Hy4’s weights and technical specifications soon. It also says pricing remains unchanged from Hy4 Preview: $0.834 per million input tokens, $2.501 per million output tokens and $0.042 per million cache-hit tokens. A 50% discount on Tencent Cloud TokenHub is due to run through 31 December 2026, according to the report.

Tencent says Hy4’s hallucination rate fell from 12.95 per cent to 7.2 per cent in internal evaluations. The figures are the company’s own results, reported by Interesting Engineering, rather than an independent benchmark.

The report also says Hy4 can create 3D scenes, build websites and produce documents, and was trained for workflows involving Blender and computer-aided design software. That gives a clearer sense of the work Tencent says it wants the model to handle beyond interpreting images.

For WorkBuddy users, Hy4 is described as working with WeCom information across chats, email, documents, calendars and meetings, including tracking project developments and flagging approaching deadlines. Tencent also says it has added safeguards targeting cybersecurity and biological risks.
