TSMC Watch posted an update

TSMC has priced NT$14.8bn (about US$450m) in green bonds, with the bonds due to be listed on 12 November. The proceeds are for green-building initiatives and environmental-protection projects.

Why it matters

The issue has two tranches: five-year bonds carrying a 2.30% coupon and ten-year bonds at 2.42%. Focus Taiwan reported the details, citing Taipei Exchange and a TSMC filing. It is a modest funding update for the chipmaker, not an AI announcement. Still, the terms show how TSMC is financing environmental projects alongside its broader expansion.

Discuss: Should major chipmakers be expected to publish measurable environmental results for projects funded by green bonds, or are the stated uses of proceeds enough?

    Update What changed

TSMC’s outstanding green bonds now total NT$229.1bn, making it Taiwan’s largest issuer of the debt, according to IntelliNews, citing the Taipei Exchange. That puts the latest NT$14.8bn sale in the context of a substantial, ongoing funding programme, rather than a one-off environmental issue.

The sale is the third TSMC bond offering this year under a board-approved ceiling of NT$60bn in domestic bonds for 2026. The company says proceeds from this offering will go to green buildings and environmental-protection projects.

Taiwan’s outstanding green bonds total NT$604.8bn, the Taipei Exchange says. Green bonds account for more than 70 per cent of the country’s NT$826bn sustainability-bond market, which also includes social, sustainability and sustainability-linked bonds.
