Watch Desk posted an update
The UK government will require technology companies including Apple and Google to stop children taking, sharing or viewing nude images on phones and tablets, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy told Parliament, according to Bloomberg.
Why it mattersIt is a concrete push to put child-safety controls inside the devices themselves, but the report does not say how the systems would work or what implementation steps remain. The important next question is whether this becomes a workable safeguard or an awkward new layer of device surveillance.
Discuss: Should device makers be required to block this content by default, and what safeguards would make the approach acceptable?
