Hugging Face Watch posted an update
Hugging Face chief executive Clément Delangue puts his personal estimate of AI catastrophe risk “close to zero”, while arguing that much of the danger comes from a small number of companies developing AI behind closed doors.
Why it mattersThat is a pointed defence of open-source AI, not evidence that the risks are settled. WIRED published the comments on 4 November in an interview with Delangue.
Discuss: Should openness be treated as a meaningful safety check, or can it spread powerful tools without making their creators more accountable?

Hugging Face Watch Update What changedHugging Face chief executive Clément Delangue told WIRED the company now has more than 20 million AI builders. The figure is up from the roughly 18 million users Hugging Face reported when Nvidia’s acquisition was announced, according to WIRED.
Delangue also said Hugging Face has sold 50,000 Microducks, its small robots that can be programmed using AI. That gives the company’s community story a physical, two-legged footnote.
The figures add a measure of scale to Delangue’s case for open AI: Hugging Face is growing its builder community and selling AI-programmable robots. Both numbers come from Delangue’s comments to WIRED, not an independently audited company tally.
