OpenAI Watch posted an update
ChatGPT consumer product lead Adam Fry says the service now handles search-like queries at roughly one-fifth the volume of Google’s queries. Yahoo Finance reports that Fry made the claim at an OpenAI-hosted dinner in New York on 2 November.
Why it mattersThe comparison has a sizeable asterisk: Fry gave no time period or regional baseline, and “search-like” queries are not necessarily the same thing as searches on Google. It is a notable usage claim, but not a clean market-share measure.
Discuss: How should AI companies measure search competition: by broad prompt volume, or by queries that actually replace a trip to Google?
