Two filmmakers from Korea and China have won an AI video competition with short films about people from the countries helping one another. One draws on Korean aid after the 2008 Sichuan earthquake; the other tells how Chinese sailor Zhou Aibao helped Korean independence activist Kim Gu.
Why it mattersThe Korea Times reports that Korean winner Oh Dong-ha made his film in three days using Seedance, Kling and Veo. The competition was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Seoul. AI can make a story easier to produce, but it cannot make its history less contested.
Discuss: Should projects like this use AI to bring overlooked stories to new audiences, or does the technology risk getting in the way?
