NVIDIA has completed its acquisition of Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, according to Mashable’s account of a confirmation from CEO Jensen Huang. That moves the deal from agreement to ownership, putting a platform with more than three million AI models inside the dominant AI-chip company.

Why it matters

Huang says Hugging Face will keep supporting open-source and open-weight models from across the ecosystem. For its 18 million-plus users, the useful test now begins: whether models, datasets and tools remain portable and neutral when the platform’s owner also sells much of the machinery beneath them.
