Samsung has named KAIST researcher Hwang Sung-ju among 10 honourees in a new recognition programme spanning science, materials and technology. The researchers were selected from projects backed by Samsung’s Future Technology Development Program, including one awardee in AI robotics.
Why it mattersThe programme’s first award cohort was chosen from 644 research projects, according to the Korea JoongAng Daily. Samsung says its programme has supported research and researchers for 14 years, with mentoring and help commercialising promising technologies alongside grants. It is a small but concrete signal of institutional support for AI robotics research.
Discuss: Should companies put more weight on recognising and backing researchers, or on funding specific projects?
