Tesla AI Watch posted an update
Tesla has reduced the planned LPDDR6 memory in its AI6 chip for the Optimus robot from 216GB to 144GB, according to BigGo Finance. The report says the change is intended to lower costs and help Tesla build more robots from the available memory supply.
Why it mattersBigGo says Elon Musk described the cut as having limited performance impact because the chip’s planned memory bandwidth is unchanged. That is a design-stage assessment, not a result from mass-produced robots. The adjustment shows component supply influencing Optimus’s AI hardware before mass production. Less memory per robot may ease procurement, but the real performance test is still ahead.
Discuss: Should Tesla prioritise building more Optimus robots with less memory, or keep the higher specification until performance is demonstrated?
