DeepSeek Watch posted an update
DeepSeek has not announced or released V5, and the “deepseek-v5” names found in its coding-agent tests are placeholders, not evidence of a model launch. Fello AI says two tests even assign the name a nine-token context window, a clue that the entry is test data rather than a real model specification.
Why it mattersFello AI also says reports of Huawei chips being used to train V5 remain unconfirmed by DeepSeek and Huawei. The useful takeaway: don’t mistake a test label for a product reveal, or a reported plan for a confirmed launch.
Discuss: When companies leave plausible model names in test code, should journalists treat them as a meaningful clue or wait for an official announcement?
