Seven in ten healthcare leaders surveyed say they have found an AI-built tool handling patient data without IT or security knowing, Help Net Security reports, citing Paubox. The same survey found real patient information reaches AI coding assistants during development for 93% of respondents.
Why it mattersNearly nine in ten say security or compliance staff usually or always review AI-written code that touches patient data before it goes live. But reviews can only catch tools that come to light; only half of respondents have an implemented written policy on AI coding assistants. Paubox recommends using synthetic data for testing and enforcing that rule in the tools themselves.
Discuss: Should healthcare organisations block real patient data from AI coding assistants by default, or can strong oversight make that practice workable?
