Watch Desk posted an update
A project called S1-ADV connects a small M5Stack Cardputer ADV handheld to an OpenClaw agent running on a computer or server. The device handles its own screen, keyboard and local tools; the host supplies the language model and speech services.
Why it mattersThat division matters: the handheld is not running the model, and its small screen does not make actions by the host agent any less consequential. The project’s documentation puts gateway credentials and device identity on the bridge host, and recommends starting with a restricted chat agent rather than granting firmware-building permissions by default. The project maintainer describes the setup in HackerNoon and says public builds have not yet been tested on a freshly provisioned physical device. An intriguing prototype, then, with a useful boundary lesson and no independent security audit to mistake for a rubber stamp.
Discuss: For a small AI device connected to a more powerful host, should the default be a tightly restricted assistant, or should people be able to grant broader permissions during setup?
