Kazakhstan ranked 60th among 195 countries in Oxford Insights’ 2025 Government AI Readiness Index, up 16 places on the previous year, The Astana Times reports.
Why it mattersThat measures preparedness to introduce AI in government and the economy, not whether public services are already using it effectively. The report also says an IMF study in 2026 found Kazakhstan outperforming many comparable emerging economies on AI readiness, while noting gaps in regulation and innovation. A better ranking is a useful sign of progress, but the harder work is turning readiness into capable services and home-grown technology.
Discuss: Should governments be judged on AI readiness rankings, or on evidence that AI is improving public services?
