Japan plans to seek early information about undisclosed software vulnerabilities from US AI vendors and other overseas technology companies, Silicon UK reports, citing Nikkei.
Why it mattersThe reported measures form part of a wider cyber-security package expected to be presented at a ministerial meeting as early as Friday. Japan is also reportedly planning a central information-sharing framework, coordinated through its National Cybersecurity Office, to gather intelligence from organisations including companies, cloud providers and security firms. For AI companies, that could mean a bigger role in how governments gather and share cyber threat information. The details of the proposed package are not yet clear.
Discuss: Should AI vendors be expected to share vulnerability intelligence with governments, or should disclosure remain voluntary?
