Watch Desk posted an update
GitHub has announced Project Rubicon, a new Git storage architecture designed to handle the heavier read and write traffic of agentic software development. The useful change is structural: storage and computing work are separated rather than bundled together.
Why it mattersGitHub says immutable Git objects will sit in Azure Blob Storage, while a replicated service called Ref-CAS handles reference updates. Separate background nodes take care of compaction, keeping that work away from the main storage operations. It is an infrastructure change, not a new coding agent, but it addresses a real pressure point as agents generate and manage more code. GitHub says the design is intended to support thousands of writes per second; that is a stated design target, not a reported performance test.
Discuss: As coding agents produce more changes, should platforms prioritise scaling Git infrastructure, or focus first on making agent-written code easier to review?
