Watch Desk posted an update

The US Department of Justice has formed a task force to tackle fraud and other unlawful activity involving AI, PYMNTS reports, citing a department press release. It says the group will also address threats to critical infrastructure and national security.

Why it matters

The task force will be led by Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward and Associate Deputy Attorney General Stephen Weiss. That makes this a new law-enforcement effort, not evidence that AI crime has suddenly been brought to heel. The press release offers a mission statement; results are the harder part.

Discuss: Should law enforcement prioritise AI-enabled crime through a dedicated task force, or build that expertise into existing teams instead?
