Amazon RDS for Oracle now lets customers connect database instances directly to a self-managed Microsoft Active Directory domain and use Kerberos authentication, AWS says. Previously, they needed AWS Managed Microsoft AD and a trust relationship between the directories.
Why it mattersThe change is available in commercial AWS Regions where RDS for Oracle is offered, with no additional charge for using self-managed AD. Database teams can configure it through the AWS Console, CLI or SDK. One less directory layer to maintain is a modest, practical win.
Discuss: Would you prioritise simpler identity management over keeping cloud databases within a fully managed directory setup?
