Rubric Labs argues that always-on AI agents need more than a chatbot left running: they need systems built to manage long stretches of activity.
Why it mattersIts proposed toolkit includes folding older context to manage tokens, using timed heartbeats to trigger autonomous work, and dispatching tasks to sub-agents. It also suggests filtering incoming notifications with smaller models before they reach the agent. That is a useful set of design ideas, not evidence that these patterns are already a reliable recipe. Still, it points to the unglamorous plumbing behind agents that keep working after the chat window goes quiet.
Discuss: Which part of this design is the hardest to get right in practice: managing context, delegating work, or deciding what deserves the agent’s attention?
