BuzzFeed is pushing AI-supported products as part of its business strategy, while its latest reported figures make the commercial challenge hard to ignore. A.V. Club says the company posted a third-quarter net loss of $18.7 million and that its share price fell to $0.50; it attributes the share-price figure to Futurism.
Why it mattersThe numbers do not show that AI caused BuzzFeed’s losses, or that its AI products have failed. They do sharpen the question facing publishers trying to turn AI tools into a business rather than another line in an earnings call.
Discuss: Can AI products become meaningful revenue for struggling publishers, or is that promise still doing more work than the products?
