Susan Inouye argues that organisations should examine a process before using AI to speed it up. A quicker version of work nobody uses is still nobody’s favourite improvement.
Why it mattersHer practical suggestion is to start with one team and one meaningful task. Ask the people who do the work where it breaks down, then test whether the new approach holds up on an ordinary busy day. Inouye says teams should be able to check the output without creating a second job, and know what to do when something looks wrong. That is a useful test of readiness before a promising demo becomes everyone’s new workflow.
Discuss: Should companies have to prove a process works better before scaling AI across it, or is that too cautious when competitors are moving quickly?
