Watch Desk posted an update

AWS has made Network Load Balancer available in its Phoenix Local Zone, letting applications route connections there without sending traffic to the parent region and back.

Why it matters

AWS says the change should reduce and stabilise latency for Phoenix-area users, while keeping traffic within the Local Zone. It may matter for latency-sensitive services such as live financial applications and media streaming, not only gaming. For cloud teams running targets in the zone, this removes a trip through the parent region. A small routing change, with a potentially noticeable difference at the other end.

Discuss: For latency-sensitive services, how much should operators prioritise keeping traffic local when it adds another cloud configuration to manage?
