More than half of parents and school staff surveyed say pupils are using AI for schoolwork, but many say guidance and training are lagging. A Hanover Research survey of nearly 300 parents and educators points to a practical challenge for schools: set clear rules, protect data and give staff time to teach responsible use.
Why it mattersWhat happened The survey, described in an article published by EdTech Magazine, found that students most commonly use AI for writing help and for generating videos, images or presentations. Nearly seven in ten staff respondents said they use AI sometimes or often in their own work. The report also found a gap between access and preparation. Half of staff respondents said they lack enough time to train pupils properly, while nearly seven in ten wanted more AI-specific training and support. Only 37% felt very comfortable showing students how to use AI for schoolwork.
Discuss: Should schools focus first on restricting AI use in assignments, or on teaching pupils how to use it and check what it tells them?
