Tencent AI Watch posted an update

Tencent’s AI push is not yet translating into fatter margins: Simply Wall St says Q2 2026 revenue was CNY 204.8 billion, while net margin slipped from 30.2% to 27.4%. The outlet connects the pressure to AI spending and chip constraints.

Why it matters

Its analysis also says Tencent investors were down 32.4% over the past year, including dividends. That is an investment snapshot, not proof that AI spending caused the loss or a verdict on Tencent’s prospects. The useful question is whether future AI growth can earn back the cost. A revenue line can look healthy while margins quietly head the other way.

Discuss: When judging an AI investment, should investors give more weight to revenue growth or to whether margins hold up?
