BlackRock holds at least US$500 million in Anthropic shares across some of its retail funds, according to an analysis by Simply Wall St. The shares were bought below Anthropic’s current private valuations, the article says.
Why it mattersThe analysis says a future IPO could crystallise gains for those funds, but Anthropic’s reported IPO preparations are not a completed listing, and no terms are given. The useful point for investors is the size of BlackRock’s reported exposure, not a guaranteed payday. BlackRock is also backing a deal worth more than US$600 million for music catalogues, but the AI angle here is its reported Anthropic stake.
Discuss: Would you treat private AI-company exposure in a fund as a meaningful benefit, or wait for a public listing before giving it much weight?
