South Korea’s KOSPI fell more than 8% in early trading on 6 November, triggering a circuit breaker, as fears about the AI investment cycle fuelled panic selling in semiconductor shares, The Korea Times reports.
Why it mattersAt 10:30am KST, SK hynix was down 10.28% and Samsung Electronics 7.99%. Those are reported market movements, not proof that AI investment has peaked. Still, the chipmakers’ sharp falls show how quickly doubts about AI spending can reach the companies supplying the hardware. A circuit breaker is an unusually blunt sign of a turbulent session.
Discuss: Is this a useful warning that AI chip expectations have run too hot, or a market reaction that says more about investor nerves than the technology’s prospects?
