Unity has reportedly held acquisition talks with Silver Lake and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, with the company valued at about $25bn. GamesIndustry.biz reports the talks were covered by Reuters; no deal is certain and terms could change.
Why it mattersThe reported approach puts a major software platform used to build games in play, but it remains a proposal, not a completed transaction. Unity is also said to have engaged an investment bank to evaluate its options.
Discuss: Would a change of ownership give Unity the stability to invest in its tools, or risk making the platform less predictable for developers?
