The Indian rupee rose to 93.90 against the US dollar on Friday, its strongest level since April, as overseas investors returned to Indian equities. The Times of India reports that investors bought nearly $3 billion of Indian shares this week, including $1.6 billion on Thursday.
Why it mattersThe report links the shift partly to investors reassessing exposure to AI-heavy markets, but says softer oil prices and easing yields also helped the rupee. For India, which imports nearly 90% of its oil, cheaper crude is a useful tailwind. It is a fresh market signal, not proof that investors have abandoned AI.
Discuss: Is this a durable move towards less AI-heavy markets, or a short-lived response to oil prices and market jitters?
