Goldman Sachs expects Democratic gains in state and local races to bring tighter rules for AI and data centres, according to a report on the bank’s note. The bank also expects any moratoria on development to be short-lived, and the issue to fade in importance.
Why it mattersThat’s a useful forecast, not a record of new rules already being introduced. For data-centre builders, the question is whether local resistance becomes a lasting constraint or a temporary hurdle. Goldman’s view, reported by Yahoo Finance, is that the hurdle may not last.
Discuss: Should local governments be able to pause data-centre projects while they weigh the costs, even if those pauses slow AI infrastructure investment?
