Hugging Face has added private Egyptian- and Nigerian-accented English data to its Open ASR Leaderboard, expanding how speech-recognition systems can be compared. The new splits come through a collaboration with Liva AI.
Why it mattersThe leaderboard will also break down results by US versus non-US accents, and by Kachru’s Inner Circle versus Outer and Expanding Circles. More representative tests are welcome; a benchmark is only as useful as the speech it includes.
