Xeinadin plans to recruit 70 graduates across Ireland for its 2027 intake, a 40% increase. Area managing partner Paul O’Connell says AI will take on routine processing and some repetitive compliance work, while accountants’ roles shift towards interpreting information and advising clients.
Why it mattersO’Connell argues that firms still need graduates to build technical knowledge, judgement and client relationships. He also says new entrants will need data literacy, confidence with AI tools and an understanding of their limits. That is one firm’s view, not proof of where the whole profession is heading. But the recruitment plan makes the argument concrete: if AI changes junior work, firms still have to decide how new accountants will learn the fundamentals.
Discuss: If AI takes routine tasks away from junior accountants, should firms hire more graduates to train them for higher-value work, or redesign entry-level roles around different skills?
