A China-linked hacking group used an AI-powered tool alongside DeepSeek and a commercial model in a campaign targeting more than 200 organisations across 14 countries in 11 days, Axios reports, citing CrowdStrike. The report says agents automated much of the operation.
Why it mattersThat is a concrete example of AI being used to scale cyber activity, rather than evidence that every recent hack involves AI. Axios says there is no clear link between AI and the reported attacks on European refrigeration systems. The distinction matters: the refrigeration incidents raise security questions, but they are not proof of AI-driven attacks.
Discuss: For defending against AI-assisted cyber campaigns, should organisations prioritise patching known weaknesses or investing in tools that can spot attacks moving faster?
