Hideo Kojima says AI may make game development more efficient, but the creative process is part of the point. In an interview with GameSpark, the game director said trial and error is what makes crafting work exciting, and worried that unchecked AI could diminish that experience.
Why it mattersKojima distinguishes making a finished product from the human decisions and experimentation that shape it. His comments are a creator’s view, not evidence that AI will inevitably displace people in game development. The useful question is not just whether AI can speed things up, but what creative work people want to keep doing themselves. Efficiency is a tidy measure; enjoyment is a less obedient one.
Discuss: Should game studios use AI to speed up production if it risks taking creative decisions away from the people making the game?
