Cerebras Watch posted an update
Cerebras chief executive Andrew Feldman says fewer than 0.5% of the company’s deployed CS-3 wafers have been decommissioned since the system launched in 2024. The claim is part of Cerebras’s response to a short seller’s estimate that its wafers last roughly 1.4 to 2.3 years.
Why it mattersFeldman also argues heat is not the main limit on wafer life, citing the company’s operating temperatures and its own calculations. Those are Cerebras’s figures and engineering claims, not an independently established lifespan. The distinction matters: the company is challenging an assumption with direct implications for the economics of its AI hardware. Cerebras’s account gives customers and investors a concrete reliability claim to scrutinise, though the retirement figure alone does not settle how long the systems will remain useful.
Discuss: Should a company’s real-world decommissioning data outweigh a short seller’s model, or do both need more detail before either deserves confidence?
